Damien Lazarus’ Crosstown Rebels label can always be relied upon to supply the business – and after 15 years and 199 releases, they’ve cooked up something a little special for the big two hundred.
Reuniting Arthur Baker and Rockers Revenge (of Walking On Sunshine fame, who remember?) after some thirty years (!) has turned up what is sure to become a modern classic in ‘On A Mission’. On the original, the percussive layers and squelching bass rise and rise, supporting the soulful vocal that strongly evokes classic late 80s House – think ‘Promised Land’, with the muscle we expect from today’s dance floor heaters. ‘On A Mission of love, joy, peace’… this could just be the anthem to usher in the next summer of love we all so desperately need.
It’s obviously been a special labour of love for all involved:
“To be able to reconnect and rekindle the special collaborative connection I had with Rockers Revenge after a 30 year hiatus has been a incredibly inspiring experience. The song conveys that peace and love can still be obtained through music.” – Arthur Baker
And if that’s still not quite enough to whet your musical whistle – the full release, dropping June 8th, features dance music dons Francois K and Michael Mayer on remix pressure, which each providing a vocal and instrumental take! Believe us when we say there’s something for nearly all dance music lovers here, from positive and uplifting, to dark and sweaty. Enjoy.
Arthur Baker feat. Rockers Revenge ‘On a Mission‘. Released 8th June on Crosstown Rebels.
